4/3/12: Many Playing, No One Moving

4/3/12: Many Playing, No One Moving

I. Summary of the Events 4/3/12

i) Landeskog: Last night the Adopted-Canadian looked dominant. The very next day, the highlights were less kind to Landeskog. His game summary line is still impressive logging over 18 minutes of game time and over 2 minutes on the penalty kill.

ii) Henrique: I mistakenly labelled the New York Islanders as a team that would be willing to exchange chances and goals in the hope of coming out on top. A shut out performance by a 21 one year new comer and the Devil’s rookie skates away with nil points.

iii) Read: Playing the least of the three Calder contenders, the Flyer’s 25 year old rookie had an unremarkable party line. Likewise, he was not present in the highlights for the game. Hard to comment on his performance.

II) Preview of 5/3/12

Time to get going again for the Oilers’ Nugent-Hopkins. The HF boards and social media are beginning to grumble that RNH hasn’t been the same since returning from his injury. Given that he has missed a 1/3rd of his first professional year with the injury, it is reasonable to assume he will be slow to find form. I have yet to read confirmation of who will be playing alongside of RNH-Eberle. The Oilers website is still showing Petrell, which is frustrating. Renney’s comments of “Big body” sound hauntingly similar to Quinn’s description of JF Jacques.

The news coming out of the Oilers camp as they prepare for Anaheim is focussed on Hall’s shoulder. Will he be ready to play, and if not, who pulls into the top 6? Does Omark win his reprieve from Oklahoma?

My biggest concern is the lack of calls coming Edmonton’s way. Stauffer is now starting to recognize the trend of referees looking the other way when it comes to the Oilers youth. Without access to the powerplay, RNH’s Calder hopes take a serious hit.

Hodgson plays in a fascinating game against the Jets. I have read that if the Sabres win, they move from 11th spot to 8th in one game! Welcome to Parity in 2012.
